UBC Botanical Garden: Down to Earth


Discover spring gardening essentials at Down to Earth: Tips
& Tricks for Spring Gardening, UBC Botanical Garden’s free interactive event
and plant sale. Led by the Garden’s volunteers, the Friends of the Garden (FOGs),
this family-friendly event will feature a range of gardening demonstrations
and activities, including how to grow food in small containers and how to
attract bees and birds to your garden. The Garden’s plant and gardening experts
will be on hand to answer those with gardening questions, and a variety of
plant, gardening tools, and seed sales will also be taking place.



- Demonstrations on tree planting, seed planting, hanging
basket crafting & more

- Gardening advice from Hortline Master Gardeners, FOG Seedy
Growers, and Greenhouse Tenders

- Wild Birds Unlimited will host a talk on keeping pests
from bird food, and Certified Beemaster Brian Campbell will explain bee care

- Seeds for sale from UBC Botanical Garden, UBC Farm, and
West Coast Seeds

- Plant sales including: maple trees; vegetables and heritage
tomatoes; perennials for sun and shade; long blooming plants; groundcover;
trees and shrubs suitable for containers in small gardens

- Children’s area – kids can make paper pots and plant sunflower

- Guided Garden tours throughout the day (Maple, Grow Green,
TreeWalk or Garden theme); with donation or purchase from sale with receipt

- Greenheart TreeWalk half price during the event
