SUMMER IN THE SQUARE 2018
The summer season simply calls for patios and outdoor performances! Our Summer in the Square series features local artists who will regale and entertain you in Norman MacKenzie Square through the warm summer months. Performances will be twice a week, from June 30th to September 4th. So grab a beer at BierCraft or a refreshing iced drink from Blenz and sit out on their patios, or take a seat in Norman MacKenzie Square, and enjoy the amazing performances!
Today's Artist: Leah Barley
CBC Music JUNOfest performer Leah Barley fell in love with Bluegrass and Old Time Country when she moved to Alberta in her early twenties. She bought herself a banjo and was writing and performing within two months.
Now, with over a decade under belt, this self-taught vocalist, banjo, and guitar player has released three EPs, toured throughout parts of Canada and the U.S. including CBC Music JUNOFest (2018), CBC Musical Nooners (2016 & 2017), the Chilliwack Bluegrass Festival (with the Spillionaires), Woodstove Festival (2016), and the Whiskey A Go-Go and Hotel Café in L.A. (with the Wayward Hearts).
Mixing the softness of Norah Jones, the heartfelt blues of Amy Whinehouse, and the sassy grit of Janis Joplin, Leah bring a raw and dynamic performance that captivates audiences with beautiful tones and a ridiculous range that will make your hair stand on end.
